The 6-speed manual transmission has a large gear ratio spread. The resulting gear ratios lead to a down-speeding effect, particularly in the higher gears. This facilitates a low engine rpm level and low fuel consumption. A hydraulic clutch operating system ensures light-touch gear shifting.
The first gear, which has a very short ratio, makes it easy to manoeuvre and to pull away with power, even on uphill slopes and with a load. The sixth gear has a long ratio and reduces engine rpm at high speeds, while at the same time ensuring low consumption figures and a low level of noise. The gear gradations achieved by the wide spread make it possible to work the engine demonstrably fuel-efficiently, leading to low consumption in every driving situation.
E7G-TRONIC PLUS has seven gears which keep the engine speed down in every driving situation. The wide gear ratio range and finely graduated gears reduce the leaps in revs when changing gear. This leads to comfortable gear-changing and saves fuel. The system includes cruise control, Start-off Assist, a kick-down switch, parking lock and measures to support safe operation. 7G-TRONIC PLUS is also fitted with the ECO start/stop function and DYNAMIC SELECT switch as standard.
Using the DYNAMIC SELECT switch - standard equipment with 7G-TRONIC PLUS - the driver can adjust the handling characteristics of the vehicle as desired with the help of the four drive programmes "C", "E", "S" and "M". For highly dynamic driving, the Overtorque technology in drive programmes "C", "S" and "M" deliver additional output (+ 10 kW) and torque (+ 40 Nm) briefly. In drive programme "S" the transmission shifts up only at a higher engine speed. Or the driver can shift manually using the DIRECT SELECT steering wheel gearshift buttons.
