Powerful engines have always been a very particular issue at Mercedes-AMG. Experienced engineers enthusiastically pour their hearts and souls into the development of high-performance engines that are unmatched in the world.
Contrary to mass production, every engine here is built by hand in keeping with the "one man, one engine" philosophy. Each technician assembles an engine and is responsible for all steps from the installation of the crankshaft in the engine block to the wiring and filling with motor oil – clearly evidenced by the technician's signature on the AMG engine badge.
The newly developed AMG 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with dry sump lubrication and up to 375 kilowatts of power and a peak torque of 650 Nm is also built using this craftsman principle, and sits under the elongated bonnet of the Mercedes-AMG GT and the Mercedes-AMG GT S.
A true performance vehicle is more than just a powerful engine. It is rather the sum of technical refinements that allow putting the full power on the road and countering the high centrifugal forces.
The AMG DRIVE UNIT with AMG DYNAMIC SELECT controller allows you to pre-select driving programmes that provide performance to suit your preferences. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission and limited-slip rear differentials (mechanical or electronic depending on the model) translate this power into sheer acceleration .
The double wishbone concept successful in motorsport allows the AMG sports suspension and the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with adjustable dampers to deliver convincing racetrack performance. This is primarily evident in the excellent lateral dynamics and the directional stability at high speed
